Carbon molecular sieve and activated carbon are two different carbon materials, below are their raw materials and production processes:

Carbon molecular sieve:

1. Raw materials: Carbon molecular sieve (CMS) is usually made from polymer precursors, such as polyimide, resin, cellulose and polyetherimide.

2.Production process: The polymer precursor is made into carbon molecular sieve through pyrolysis and carbonization. This process involves heating the polymer to a certain temperature to decompose it and form a carbon material with a specific pore size and structure. The pore size of carbon molecular sieve is crucial to the separation of gas molecules. They are usually used to separate oxygen and nitrogen in the air in the pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process.

What is main characteristics of carbon molecular sieve?

High-purity product: It can provide high-purity nitrogen.

Simple equipment: The equipment has a simple structure and is easy to operate and maintain.

Automation: It can achieve continuous cycle operation and is fully automated.

Micropore structure: The separation capacity of carbon molecular sieve depends on the different diffusion speeds or adsorption forces of various gases in the air in the micropores.

Activated carbon:

1. Raw materials: Activated carbon is usually made from carbon-containing materials such as wood, coconut shells, coal, fruit shells, sawdust, bone charcoal, etc.

2. Production process: These raw materials are dried, carbonized (heated to a certain temperature under oxygen-deficient conditions), activated (increasing the pore structure through physical or chemical methods) and other steps to make activated carbon. The pore structure of activated carbon gives it a high specific surface area, which can effectively adsorb impurities in gases and liquids.

Although both activated carbon and carbon molecular sieve are carbon-based materials, their application areas and functions are different. Activated carbon is mainly used to adsorb impurities, purify water and air, while carbon molecular sieve is mainly used for gas separation, especially in industrial gas production. The choice between the two depends on the specific application and performance requirements.

Carbon molecular sieve is widely used in many industries, including chemical industry, oil and gas industry, electronics industry, food industry, pharmaceutical industry, etc. Its working principle is to separate nitrogen and oxygen through the PSA process under a certain pressure.
